Sharing Web Resources

The name of the organization I chose is Pre K Now - The Pew Charitable Trusts: http://www.pewstates.org/projects/pre-k-now-328067\
This website is organized to campaign for high quality pre-k programs. They want to take the current K-12 system and change it to Pre-K-12. "The Pew Charitable Trusts is driven by the power of knowledge to solve today’s most challenging problems. Pew applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public and stimulate civic life."
This caught my attention because I am a Pre-K teacher. We are not mandated in our state and I think it would be awesome if we were mandated!!! That's the reason I chose to research this website. I just recently signed up for the newsletter, so when I get it I will be sure to update my blog!

  1. Hi Shanda! We are both watching the same website. I signed up for the RSS feed and I get the newsletters in my RSS mailbox in my email. When I signed up, PEW automatically delivered about 30 of them. I look forward to getting to know you in this class. I work in a program that is not mandated either. I often wonder if it would be a good thing to be mandated or not. I am guessing if parent education was mandated, many parents would not come because of an implied stigma that comes with a mandated parent education program. Mandating to me means paperwork! Thanks so much for posting early this week! Katy Smith

  2. I love your verse on your blog. It is one of my favorites. I have worked in a small christain school for many years and nursery school teacher do not have to be mandated. However, I believe that some people work with children just for the money and not becuase they truly care about children's well being.I am not sure if being mandated would help but, I do not think I person would go through all the troubles of getting mandated if they truly do not care. I could be wrong. Thank you for your post.

  3. Shanda,
There used to be a Pre-K Now magazine I took years ago. I loved it but have been unable to find it recently. I guess it isn't published anymore. I believe there can't be too many organizations and publications promoting the importance of early childhood education. I look forward to what you discover on their cite.

  4. Hi Shanda,

I am interested in learning more about PEW. It sounds like an organization committed to making a difference in the lives of children.
